Nibbly™ ForestNest is compressed bedding made from pale aspen-family hardwood shavings. Its natural forest-floor colour and defined flakes create a warm, textured habitat—without the clinical grey-paper look of many mass-market bedding products.

The flakes loosen into a springy substrate that supports digging, nesting and layered habitat design. Unlike damp paper pulp that can flatten into a dense mat, hardwood shavings retain a more distinct, airy texture when kept dry and spot-cleaned regularly.

Species suitability

• Best suited for: dwarf hamsters and Syrian hamsters, also known as golden or teddy hamsters. 
• Also compatible with conditions: guinea pigs and rabbits as an absorbent base layer beneath generous hay.
• Not recommended for: mice, fancy rats, gerbils, chinchillas or squirrels.

Materials and construction

White poplar/aspen-family hardwood shavings, compressed in a clear plastic bag. The supplier states that the material is heat-dried and low-dust. No independent laboratory report was supplied for dust level, absorbency, additives or ammonia control, so Nibbly does not describe this product as dust-free or ammonia-neutralising.

Setup and care

1. Open the compressed bag in a well-ventilated area and loosen the flakes completely.
2. Check for excessive fine dust. Do not use a batch that releases a visible dust cloud.
3. Add a deep, species-appropriate layer. For hamster tunnels, compact gently and combine with soft nesting paper where extra structure is needed.
4. Remove damp or soiled areas promptly and replenish with clean bedding.
5. Replace more bedding whenever it becomes wet, strongly odorous or unable to remain loose and dry.

Important guidance

• A natural wood scent does not neutralise harmful ammonia and must never replace routine cleaning.
• If you can smell a strong urine or ammonia odour, clean the enclosure immediately and improve ventilation.
• Stop use if your pet shows respiratory irritation, persistent sneezing or sensitivity, and consult an appropriate veterinarian.
• Keep the unopened bag dry and away from heat, moisture and open flame.
• Natural colour and flake size may vary between batches.
